CUMBERLAND COUNTY SECURES $5.5 MILLION FOR HISTORIC HIGH-TECH SUPERCOMPUTER AND WIND TUNNEL FACILITY AT TENNESSEE TECH
Tennessee Tech University’s Crossville campus is set to become a premier hub for cutting-edge technological development following a major legislative funding victory.
Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Senator Paul Bailey announced they have secured a $5.5 million recurring annual legislative appropriation to bring a state-of-the-art supercomputer and a high-speed wind tunnel to the local campus.
With the approval of this funding, Crossville will make history as the smallest city in the United States to host both a high-performance supercomputing hub and an advanced wind tunnel facility under one roof.
Driving Economic and Academic Growth
State leaders expect the new facility to transform the local economy and serve as an engine for regional advancement across several key areas:
-
High-Tech Job Creation: Attracting new technical and engineering roles to Cumberland County.
-
Corporate Partnerships: Encouraging private industry collaboration with university researchers.
-
Academic Excellence: Expanding hands-on research and innovation opportunities for Tennessee Tech students and faculty.
“This facility will serve as a premier hub for cutting-edge technological development, driving high-tech job creation, corporate partnerships, and academic excellence directly in the heart of Cumberland County,” Speaker Sexton said in a statement celebrating the appropriation.
The investment marks a significant expansion of higher education infrastructure and technological capability in rural Middle Tennessee.
