CUMBERLAND COUNTY SELECTED FOR TENNESSEE HOUSING MARKET ANALYSIS INITIATIVE

Cumberland County has been named one of 14 Tennessee counties selected to receive a comprehensive Housing Market Analysis aimed at addressing local housing shortages and supporting long-term economic growth.
The initiative—announced by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) in partnership with Points Consulting—is designed to help local leadership better understand community housing demands and take concrete steps to increase housing availability.
As part of the program, Cumberland County will receive a direct site visit from Points Consulting, an expert firm specializing in economic development and land use strategies. Following the visit, local officials will be provided with a customized review evaluating:
  • Growth Alignment: The specific number of housing units needed to keep pace with population growth.
  • Property Diversity: Assessments for both ownership and rental properties, as well as single-family and multi-family housing options.
  • Actionable Plans: Practical steps and data-driven insights to attract developers and support local community development.
“Every county in Tennessee, from our urban centers to our rural communities, faces a need for housing,” said Deputy Gov. and TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter. “These 14 counties will now have the critical data and insights required to better match supply with demand and attract the developers necessary to meet their needs.”
This state-backed effort expands on successful housing studies previously conducted in West Tennessee to prepare regions for major economic development. With the new customized analysis, Cumberland County leaders will gain the critical tools needed to make informed zoning, development, and infrastructure decisions to meet the community’s expanding needs.
