CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS RESIDENTS OF BANK-IMPERSONATION SCAM ATTEMPTS
Local authorities are reminding residents to remain vigilant following a reported bank-impersonation scam in late September.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, a resident was targeted by individuals posing as representatives from a bank’s fraud department on September 30. The callers attempted to deceive the resident by sending a malicious link and instructing them to use it to verify a separate account.
Prompt action by the resident prevented any financial damage. The individual immediately contacted both affected financial institutions to secure their accounts and requested formal documentation of the incident. Fortunately, no financial losses or unauthorized charges were incurred.
As of the latest reports, investigators have not yet identified a suspect. Law enforcement encourages anyone receiving similar unsolicited calls or suspicious links to avoid clicking them and to report the incident directly to their financial institution and local authorities.
