Cumberland County saw a modest improvement in its local economy as its August unemployment rate ticked down to 4.1%. This figure reflects a 0.1% decrease from July’s numbers and is also down 0.1% compared to the same time last year, according to data released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).

The local drop mirrors a broader trend of economic stability across Tennessee. Statewide, 89 of the 95 counties reported unemployment rates below 5% for August. Sevier and Cheatham counties recorded the state’s lowest jobless rates at a matching 2.9%, while Hancock and Perry counties posted the highest at 5.5%.

As the state recognizes National Workforce Development Month and highlights the first-year success of the TNWorks initiative—which has served 6,300 employers—Cumberland County’s steady job market highlights continued economic resilience in the region.
