CUMBERLAND MOUNTAIN STATE PARK UNVEILS CABIN RENOVATIONS

Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation officials yesterday rededicated newly renovated cabins at Cumberland Mountain State Park in Cumberland County.

They were first built during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Created in 1933 by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to preserve and nurture America’s natural resources, the CCC brought forests back from the brink of destruction, established recreational destinations, and provided work for tens of thousands in Tennessee.

Officials say 11 cabins were fully restored to return them to their original rustic charm while adding modern conveniences. A few original furnishings were returned inside and the rest were hand-made to replicate the cane and hickory style from when the cabins first opened.

On hand for the rededication ceremony included Tennessee Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton and Senator Paul Bailey.
