DATING SITE APP SCAM REPORTED TO SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT

On 5/1/24 a Crossville man came to the Justice Center Lobby and reported that he thinks someone is trying to scam him. He
reported on 04/30/2024 he got on the OK CUPID dating website app on his phone and began chatting with what he thought was an
adult woman.
The man reported the female began talking sexually right away and that when he asked the woman if she was a consenting
adult, she stated yes. The man reported the two talked for a while and exchanged pictures.

The man reported the following day at around 1:00 pm he received a phone call from a phone number in Butler, Tennessee. The man
reported a male began speaking and said that his 15 year old daughter had gotten on his wife’s work laptop
computer and that was who he received the picture of. The male said his name was Richard and that if the man would
pay him $600.00 he would not report him to the police.

The man reported he immediately called his attorney about the incident who told him to come to the Sheriff’s Office to
make a report on the matter. No money was sent and there has been no more contact as of the time of the report.
