DEPUTIES FIND CUT CATALYTIC CONVERTERS IN CAR AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE LAST WEEK

We received more information on the arrest of 19-year-old James Schillinger after the high-speed chase Monday morning involving multiple agencies.

It all started when a Cumberland County deputy observed a blue Chevy Cavalier traveling at speeds of 82 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. After trying to conduct a traffic stop, the driver fled away from the deputy outbound on HWY 70 East towards Roane County and turned onto Highway 27 towards Rhea County. He then turned on Mountain View Road which comes back out on HWY 70 East making a circle back into Cumberland County. The driver, later identified as 19-year-old James Schillinger, turned onto a four-wheeler trail off the highway which went back into the woods. The deputy was able to follow the vehicle for a short distance before he had to continue on foot. He then located the vehicle stuck in a creek with no occupants inside. After searching the vehicle for identification, two catalytic converters that had been recently cut were found in the vehicle.

Roane County deputies and Rockwood City officers assisted in the pursuit of the couple who were traveling on foot.

A Rockwood officer located James Schillinger hiding in an outbuilding off Tarwater Road. Schillinger had active warrants out of Roane and Morgan County and was transported into custody.

Cumberland County is charging Schillinger with Evading Arrest, Possession of a Catalytic Converter, Driving on a Revoked/Suspended License, and Reckless Endangerment.
