DEPUTIES MAKE ARREST AFTER SUSPECTED METH AND FENTANYL FOUND

On May 5, a Cumberland County deputy conducted a traffic stop on Raines Road with a driver he knew to have a revoked license.

The driver was identified as 58-year-old Herbert Brian Howard who had a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of his vehicle. After not letting the deputy search his vehicle, a K9 arrived to assist with the traffic stop.

After the K9 gave a positive alert, Howard reportedly alleged he had a “joint” in the vehicle, but nothing else. However, after deputies searched the vehicle, several small baggies weighing around 1 gram each of what is believed to be methamphetamine were found in different areas of the car. Two other bags were discovered, one weighing 6.5 grams and the other 32 grams were believed to be Fentanyl. He also possessed over $1,500 in cash and multiple cell phones.

On the passenger side of the vehicle, a zipper bag containing multiple clear plastic baggies, a digital scale, and a loaded pistol was found.

Herbert Howard was placed under arrest. A criminal history revealed that Howard was a convicted felon.

He was charged with:

UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A WEAPON
POSS OF FIREARM WHILE COMMITTING A FELONY
MFG/DEL/SELL CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
MAN, DEL., SELL, OR POSSESS METH
DRIVING ON REVOKED/SUSPENDED LICENSE

His bond was set at $99,000.
