DETAILS ON APRIL 4TH’S MULTI-VEHICLE CRASH ON I-40
On April 4, 2025, at 5:48 p.m., a multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 40 East near mile marker 352 in Roane County involving eight vehicles.
A 2024 Toyota Prius driven by Kay Denzer, a 2019 Ford Edge driven by Cathy Jean Richesin with a teenage passenger, and a 2021 Toyota Corolla driven by Vasile Rus with passenger Oana Maria Hendea were traveling eastbound. Rus’s Corolla slowed, causing the Ford Edge to slow which is when Denzer’s Prius rear-ended the Ford Edge, which then hit the Corolla.
Five motorcycles (various Harley-Davidsons and one Honda), were behind them, and one of these motorcycles struck Denzer’s Prius, while the rest laid down their motorcycles to avoid the crash, causing damage.
All involved wore seatbelts or safety gear, and no charges were filed except for Denzer who was given a citation for following too close.
Four motorcyclists were injured, but no other injuries were reported.
One was airlifted to UT Medical Center with serious injuries. No fatalities were reported.
The interstate was closed for nearly two hours, with the investigation lasting about three and a half hours. Kingston Fire Department assisted, and LifeStar transported the most seriously injured motorcyclist.
