DETAILS ON TODAY’S I-40 CRASH NEAR KINGSTON

Earlier today, a tractor-trailer wreck occurred on Rockwood Mountain, likely during heavy rainfall, contributing to a multi-vehicle accident near the 351 eastbound mile marker, just east of the Midtown exit on Interstate 40 in Roane County. The crash, reported around 1:30 PM CDT, involved three tractor-trailers and five four-wheeled vehicles.
Emergency personnel, including Kingston Fire Rescue Squad and ambulances, responded to the scene. The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) managed the situation, with traffic halted for over an hour, causing significant backups. Many drivers detoured through the Midtown exit, leading to congestion in Kingston and a secondary wreck in front of McDonald’s, further complicating response efforts for Kingston police and fire departments.
Lane restrictions persisted for approximately two hours just east of the Midtown exit. Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported, though full details of the accident are still under investigation.
