DETAILS ON TODAY’S SEMI-TRUCK CRASH ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 11:21 AM, a single-vehicle crash occurred on westbound Interstate 40 at mile marker 319 in Cumberland County, Tennessee. The incident involved a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by 45-year-old Travis Williams from Florida, who was wearing his seat belt and reported no injuries.
According to the driver, he swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle that had merged into his lane from lane two. This evasive maneuver caused the tractor-trailer to veer into the median, where it overturned and ultimately struck a cable barrier before coming to rest.
No other vehicles were involved or remained at the scene, and no charges have been filed against the driver pending further investigation.
