A preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol says that on July 8, 2025, at 1:32 pm, a single-vehicle crash occurred on US 127 near Reed Road in Cumberland County. The vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Ram 1500, was driven by 67-year-old John Capito from Tennessee.

Capito, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured in the incident and, according to the report, faces charges pending the outcome of the investigation. The vehicle was traveling south when it veered off the left side of the roadway, went into a culvert, became airborne, struck a standing tree, and came to a final rest facing south.

No additional vehicles or passengers were reported in the incident.
