DETAILS ON YESTERDAY’S CRASH ON I-40 IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY

A report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol says that on August 3, 2025, a traffic incident occurred on I-40 at mile marker 317 in Cumberland County, Tennessee, involving a Honda Pilot driven by 30-year-old Steven Hill and a 2018 Dodge Caravan driven by 38-year-old Melanie Jean Santiago, both Tennessee residents. The crash took place during a rolling roadblock for road construction, with traffic stopped.
Hill, wearing a seat belt, passed stopped traffic in the right lane and swerved back into the left lane, striking Santiago’s vehicle. The Honda Pilot came to rest on the right shoulder, while the Dodge Caravan stopped in the median.
Hill sustained injuries and faces charges of lack of due care and insurance violations, pending investigation. Santiago, also wearing a seat belt, was uninjured and faces no charges. A passenger in Hill’s vehicle, a Tennessee resident of unknown age, was not wearing a seat belt, with no injury or charge details provided.
