On July 30, 2025, Gallaher Road beneath Interstate 40 in Kingston was closed following a fatal accident around 2:00 PM. An eastbound dump truck on I-40 veered off the highway, crashed through the guardrail, and landed on Gallaher Road below, overturning and trapping the driver.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) confirmed the driver did not survive; the driver’s identity is withheld pending family notification. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Gallaher Road remain closed for investigation and cleanup, expected to last at least another hour.

The Kingston Fire Department and rescue squad freed the driver from the wreckage, with assistance from Kingston Police and THP. No other vehicles were involved. Cleanup is complicated by spilled sand, diesel, and other chemicals from the truck. THP will provide further updates as the investigation continues.
