DETAILS RELEASED REGARDING STANDOFF AT KINGSTON MOTEL; ENDS PEACEFULLY WITH TWO IN CUSTODY

A multi-county counterfeiting investigation culminated in a hours-long standoff at a local motel Tuesday, resulting in the peaceful arrest of two felony suspects and the seizure of fake currency, drugs, and a firearm.

Officers and detectives with the Kingston Police Department arrived at the Super 8 Motel on N. Kentucky Street on July 28 to investigate a counterfeiting operation and track down two individuals wanted on active felony warrants out of Knox County.

When officers knocked on the door of Room 114, an armed confrontation immediately developed. A male voice inside threatened officers, stating he had a gun, would shoot his female companion, and would take his own life.

Kingston officers quickly secured the perimeter while negotiators from both the Kingston Police Department and the Roane County Sheriff’s Office established phone contact with the pair inside. A SWAT team and specialized hostage negotiation unit from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office were deployed to the scene to assist.

After several hours of tense negotiations, Knox County SWAT officers breached the motel room door and took both subjects into custody without further incident.

The suspects have been identified as Amanda Caudle, 47, and Jason Teague, 49. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries following their arrest.

A search warrant executed on the motel room and an associated vehicle uncovered a Walther P22 pistol, counterfeit $20 bills, a printer, specialized paper, drug paraphernalia, and a large quantity of suspected narcotics.

Detectives report that the counterfeit operation spans multiple jurisdictions, with fake bills recently passed at local businesses across several counties. Additional charges are expected as the multi-agency investigation continues.

Local authorities praised the collaborative response that brought the high-risk situation to a safe conclusion, extending appreciation to the Roane County Sheriff’s Office, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Roane County EMS, Kingston Fire Department, Roane County Rescue Squad, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).
