DICKSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY KILLED; SEARCH ON FOR ARMED SUBJECT
DEVELOPING STORY – A Dickson County sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed this morning. The deputy tried to stop a driver with an expired tag around 7 a.m. A short chase ensued, after which shots were exchanged and the deputy was killed. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is hunting for the suspect, identified as Steven Wiggins. They say he’s armed and dangerous. The location of the shooting is near the Dickson/Hickman County line, near Bear Creek Valley Road and Tidwell Switch. TBI agents and forensic scientists are at the crime scene. Wiggins is a Caucasian male with balding, brown hair. He is 6’1″ and weighs 220 pounds. Wiggins is considered to be armed and dangerous. Police in Kingston Springs confirmed that Wiggins was involved in an incident with his girlfriend yesterday. He allegedly slapped the woman and held a gun to her face while he stole her car.
