DISORIENTED MAN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF LEGEND DRUG AFTER BEING FOUND ALONG I-40

Late Sunday night, deputies were dispatched to Interstate 40 westbound near the 360 exit for a report of a man on the side of the interstate. The man, 51-year-old Homer Samuel Ivey, was unsteady on his feet and carrying an empty gas can. He said he was looking for his vehicle and he believed it was stolen by a man he was riding with, whose name he didn’t know. Upon further questioning, Ivey was inconsistent as to where he’d left his vehicle and its make and model.

Deputies asked to see his identification and he pulled a hotel-style room key from his wallet. On a second request, he attempted to give a different room key.

During this encounter Ivey continued to sway and stumble. Deputies offered to give him a ride off the interstate to a safe location to which he accepted. But when Central dispatch said Ivey had an active Violation of Probation warrant in Campbell County, deputies took Ivey to the Roane County Detention Center.

On arrival, Ivey pulled a stack of nineteen 8mg Suboxone sublingual films from his wallet. He could provide no prescription and stated he had no bottle for them.

Ivey was charged with possession of a legend drug.
