DORIS WILLIAMS ARRESTED AT CUMBERLAND COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AFTER POLICE FIND NARCOTICS, SIGNS OF INTOXICATION

An older female was arrested at Cumberland County High School earlier this month after school resource officers and Crossville police officers found her visibly impaired in the school lobby and in possession of a controlled substance.
The suspect, identified as Doris Williams, was spotted slouched over with slurred speech and struggling to keep her balance. Upon responding to the scene, officers performed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests after Williams verbally consented. Police noted multiple indicators of impairment during both the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus and Walk-and-Turn tests, during which she almost fell several times.
During a consensual search of her person, officers discovered a white pill in her front pocket identified as Hydrocodone Bitartrate and Acetaminophen (325 mg), a Schedule II prescription narcotic.
Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center. She was served with two arrest warrants charging her with:
  • Public Intoxication (TCA 39-17-310) for being under the influence in a public place and posing a danger to herself and others.
  • Simple Possession (TCA 39-17-418) for possessing a controlled substance, heightened by the occurrence taking place within a school zone.
Police noted that DUI charges were not filed because officers did not observe her operating the vehicle and no remaining witnesses or video footage were present at the scene.
Following the incident, the principal of Cumberland County High School officially banned Williams from school grounds, though she was permitted to retrieve her parked vehicle at a later time. The seized narcotics were logged into evidence at the Crossville Police Department.
