A single-vehicle accident on Monday night near the intersection of Winchester and Douglas Avenue in Rockwood left a driver seriously injured and a juvenile hospitalized.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. when an SUV veered off the roadway and rolled down an embankment on Douglas Avenue. The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted by LifeStar from the Brillo Miller Sports Complex to a regional hospital. A juvenile family member, believed to be a fourth-grade student, also suffered injuries and was transported by ambulance for medical treatment.

Emergency responders from the Rockwood Police and Fire departments rushed to the scene alongside multiple ambulances, clearing the area shortly before 8:45 p.m. The Tennessee Highway Patrol assumed control of the investigation due to the serious nature of the wreck, potential DUI charges, and staffing constraints faced by the local police department at the time. Authorities have indicated that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the incident.
