DRIVER OF MOTORCYLE WRECKS AFTER ALMOST CRASHING INTO DEPUTY HEAD-ON

Around 6 PM Sunday evening, a Cumberland County deputy was patrolling the area of Genesis Road when he was almost hit head-on by a motorcycle traveling in the opposite direction at an extremely high rate of speed in the deputy’s lane of travel.

According to the police report, the driver of the motorcycle was traveling over 80 mph and got back into his lane of travel, but almost ran off the right-hand shoulder after trying to quickly avoid hitting the patrol unit. As the deputy turned his vehicle around, the motorcycle reportedly accelerated even more, attempting to outrun the deputy.

However, after traveling around a sharp curve, the deputy located the motorcycle in a ditch with the driver standing next to it. The driver originally told deputies his name was Austin Oakes, but it was later discovered his name is actually Greg Oakes.

Greg claimed that the throttle had gotten “stuck”.

Several people had also notified authorities previously of Greg’s erratic driving.

25-year-old Gregory Lawson Oakes is being charged with:

  • Violation of Probation
  • Criminal Impersonation
  • Driving on Revoked/Suspended License
  • Reckless Driving
