On Tuesday, Deputy Jason Powers with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office observed Joshua Dewayne Smith enter the Justice Center lobby, unsteady on his feet.

The man had a paper bag that seemed to have some form of canned alcohol, however, when asked what was in the bag he denied even having a bag and told the deputy that he didn’t see anything.

The deputy picked up the bag and found a 25 oz can of Budweiser Chelada within.

Smith resisted arrest, but Deputy Powers was able to get him to the floor and place him in restraints with the assistance of other deputies. Smith was then escorted to intake for booking and charged with public intoxication and resisting a stop-frisk-halt search.
