DUI ON PEAVINE

According to a report by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, On October 15th at 8:38 p.m., Corporal Logan Janow of the Fairfield Glade Police Department observed a silver Hyundai turn right from Catoosa Drive into Peavine Road, however, the turn was too wide and crossed the solid yellow dividing line of the median at the intersection.
As the vehicle was behind him, he observed it activate its high-beam headlights and change the intensity to be brighter and glaring causing the officer to have difficulty seeing the road. He then got behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop however the vehicle stopped initially in the intersection, not providing the officer enough room to be out of the road safely. He instructed the driver to pull into the parking lot of Wyndham on Stonehenge Drive and identified the driver as Norma Jean Palumbo.
While making contact, Officer Janow smelled alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. After asking for her driver’s license, Palumbo appeared to have difficulty concentrating on getting it out and handed the officer an insurance card instead. Palumbo denied consuming any alcoholic drinks and said she was returning from Bible study.
Palumbo cooperated with field sobriety tests however she failed the walking portion and parts of the eye portion. Her driving behavior, performance on field sobriety tests, the odor of alcohol, and her unsteady and coordinated behavior resulted in the driver being placed in custody for driving on a public highway while under the influence of some intoxicant.
After being taken to Cumberland Medical Center for a blood draw, and then to jail for intake, a criminal history search discovered Palumbo had two prior convictions for DUI with one in Illinois and the other in Anderson County.
She was placed into intake with a bond of $3,000 and a court date for November 18th.
