DYER SWORN IN AS NEW ALGOOD MAYOR; BILBREY APPOINTED TO CITY COUNCIL

Tuesday night the City of Algood saw the swearing in of a new mayor and new city council member. Former Vice Mayor Kirk Dyer was sworn in as the new city mayor at the first city council meeting held in two months. Scott Bilbrey resigned as city mayor nearly two weeks ago. The resignation of Bilbrey left Dyer and Norris as the only two members of the city council. Under the rules of the city charter, only a three member council is considered a quorum. Monday saw a chancery court judge make way for the two remaining council members to become a temporary quorum. After Dyer was sworn in, the remaining council members appointed Bill Bilbrey to fill one of the vacancies. Bilbrey has served 18-years with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, but never in public office. According to Dyer, the two remaining seats will be filled before the end of the year. A new vice mayor will be appointed afterward. Picture courtesy of The Herald Citizen.
