EARLY MORNING STORMS BRING HAIL TO AREAS IN UPPER CUMBERLAND

Today (Saturday, March 27, 2021) is expected to be a stormy day and the first round got underway in the Upper Cumberland just after daybreak.

In Cumberland County, a line of strong storms approached from the southwest brining numerous reports of hail to several locations. In other areas, anywhere from penny to ping pong size hail was reported by the National Weather Service.

The second round entered the area just after 9 a.m. bringing heavy rainfall and more small hail.

Fentress and Pickett County was placed under a severe thunderstorm warning early this morning for a brief period. So far, no initial reports of damage there.

The National Weather Service says the entire middle and eastern section of the state is under a risk of severe weather today. The main line is expected to come into the Cumberland Plateau between 11 p.m. tonight and 3 a.m. tomorrow morning.

This makes the third severe weather event to take place in the state in the past 10 days as many meteorologist are predicting an above average stormy spring and summer.
