EAST TENNESSEE FIREFIGHTER KILLED WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC AT AN INDEPENDENCE DAY EVENT
NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. – Yesterday, July 4th a volunteer firefighter was killed after getting hit by a vehicle when directing traffic at an Independence Day event for the fire department. Roger Estes, age 77 was with the South Claiborne County Fire Department. He was reportedly hit by a Ford truck and died from his injuries. Officials said the crash occurred at approximately 1:00 PM on Highway 33 South in New Tazwell.
Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
