EDGEWOOD RESTAURANT RAZED AFTER SERVING CROSSVILLE FOR 77 YEARS
The Edgewood Restaurant on West Avenue in Crossville, a staple of the community for decades, is now gone. Demolition crews began demolishing the former restaurant building on Tuesday as current owners Rex Tanner and Brenda Nelson looked on.
The Edgewood opened in 1947, and was operated by two different owners until 1980 when Polly Manning bought the place. In 1982 Polly’s daughter, Pat Tanner, became part of the team and helped her mom run the business until her mother passed away in 2016. Pat took over the operation to carry on the legacy her mother had built. It was a rare occasion that Pat did not have the doors unlocked and ready for business by 3:30 am every morning, Monday – Friday, closing at 2pm, and leaving at 3pm. This restaurant was more than a job to her, it was home and all the customers were her family.
