Edward Eugene Burgess “Gene”, age 87, was born June 17, 1933 to Dalton and Jewel Vinson Burgess in Jackson County, Tennessee. He passed away May 4, 2021. He began preaching in October of 1956. He was an evangelist in California, Michigan, and Tennessee for six and a half years. He pastored at the Crossville Church of God for 11 years, except for four when he pastored the North Sparta Church of God. After pastoring in Sparta, he moved back to Crossville and built a new church in 1978 and spend the remainder of his years pastoring there. He spent a total of 50 years in Crossville.

He is survived by his wife: Teresa Burgess; daughters: Tabitha (Aaron) deVogel and Holly McGill; sister: Diane (Junior) Draper; grandchildren: Ethan, Owen, Jesse, and Jewel; and nephew: Kevin (Shari) Burgess.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother: Alvin Burgess.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 10, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. central at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held following visitation at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Crossville City Cemetery. Obituary by Crossville Memorial Funeral Home.
