An inmate who escaped the Monroe County jail was captured last night in Athens, Tennessee. Officers took 28-year-old Ricky Dale Dotson II into custody without incident and transported him back to the Monroe County Jail. Dotson is being charged with escaping from the facility. Officers found Dotson at a Super 8 Motel on Decatur Pike in Athens after a joint effort with the U.S. Marshal Service’s Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force. Dotson escaped the jail this past Sunday by climbing a razor wire fence that surrounds the recreation yard. A corrections officer tried to grab Dotson’s feet as he was climbing, but Dotson escaped as the officer called for backup. Dotson was arrested for aggravated burglary and was scheduled to appear in court February 20.
