FAIRFIELD GLADE WOMAN REPORTS $2,300 WORTH OF FRAUD
On May 10, 2025, Patrol Officer Breanna Freeman of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of identity theft and fraud at a residence on Hilton Lane in Fairfield Glade, Tennessee. The complainant, an 82-year-old resident, discovered two unauthorized withdrawals totaling $2,300 from her checking account, made using checks she still possessed.
The checks, numbered 3920 and 3922, were written for $1,050 and $1,250 respectively, with forged signatures and illegible payee information. The victim noted that the checks were processed on May 9, 2025, and confirmed she had not experienced mail theft or missing checks from her checkbook, which she ordered from Regions Bank.
Officer Freeman advised her to verify her checkbook’s numerical sequence, contact the bank to track the checks, and confirm the receipt of two recently mailed legitimate checks. The victim was unable to reach the bank due to its closure and was instructed to follow up on Monday, monitor her account, and consider placing a stop payment on suspicious transactions. She agreed to email images of the fraudulent checks for further investigation.
The case remains under investigation with no identified suspect.
