FAIRFIELD GLADE WOMAN SCAMMED OUT OF THOUSANDS

A Fairfield Glade woman was scammed out of $2,298.99 last month after she received a phone call stating they were the Amazon Fraud Department.

The 73-year-old woman told deputies an unknown male called her claiming to be with Amazon stating her account had been charged $4,000 for gaming systems. The caller stated that in order to get rid of these fraudulent charges, she needed to pay them using her Zelle account. The woman gave the caller her information to send money to four different individuals, to take care of the Amazon charge.

When the woman spoke with her bank later, they told her that the Zelle payments have went through and had taken $2,298.99 from her account.

The scammer called her again to advise the woman to go to Kroger and obtain a multiuse debit card for him. Luckily, the woman came to the Sherriff’s Office instead.

This case is under investigation.
