FALLING TREE RESULTS IN THREE DEAD IN EAST RIDGE

In East Ridge, Tennessee, a tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning when saturated ground caused a large tree to fall onto a car, killing a child and two adults inside. This followed heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening, with nearly seven inches of rain causing widespread flooding that closed Interstate 24 and numerous roads across Hamilton County.

Emergency officials and first responders are now assessing flood-affected areas to evaluate damage and assist those in need, while also searching for a man last seen walking through floodwaters on East Brainerd Road on Tuesday night. A Flood Watch is in effect from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. CDT on August 13, 2025, for Cumberland, Pickett, and Fentress counties, where excessive runoff may lead to flooding in creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and urban locations with poor drainage.

While widespread flooding is not anticipated, localized flash flooding from heavy thunderstorms is possible, particularly in areas already impacted by earlier rainfall. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions and potential warnings.
