FAMILY DISPLACED AFTER HOUSE FIRE IN HARRIMAN
A house fire displaced a family in Harriman on Saturday morning. According to Harriman Fire Chief Jon Johnson, the department received a call around 11:30 a.m. for a fire at 141 Childs Road, which runs behind the McDonald’s in South Harriman. Upon arrival, crews saw heavy smoke pouring from the home and were told two people—a mother and daughter—were still inside. Both were able to escape the structure and were treated on scene by ambulance personnel for smoke inhalation but were not seriously injured.
Chief Johnson said the preliminary investigation points to a possible electrical issue in an upstairs closet, though the official cause has not yet been determined. Photos provided by the chief show the home sustained substantial fire, smoke, and water damage. The Red Cross was called to assist the family with temporary housing for the weekend. Rockwood and Kingston fire departments responded under mutual aid, and Chief Johnson expressed appreciation for their help. Harriman firefighters remained on scene until approximately 2:30 p.m.
