FEDERAL LAWSUIT AGAINST TVA AND JACOBS ENGINEERING REGARDING ROANE COUNTY ASH SPILL CLEANUP DISMISSED

A federal court dismissed a lawsuit yesterday against TVA and Jacobs Engineering. Judge Thomas Varlan found allegations were either deficient or barred by the statute of limitations. Workers said they got sick and some died after cleaning up a coal ash spill back in 2008 in Roane County. TVA chose Jacobs Engineering to hire workers to clean up the spill. Cleaning up the disaster cost TVA more than $1 billion. The workers or their families also allege Jacobs Engineering downplayed dangers of coal ash exposure and prevented them from taking steps to protect themselves. Jacobs has denied the allegations. In a statement released, TVA said that they accepted responsibility for the spill and they committed to restoring the site. The lawsuit was filed in 2019, and it also said that defendants were seeking restitution and damages.
