FEMA AUTHORIZES FEDERAL FUNDS TO HELP FIGHT SEVIER COUNTY FIRES

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized federal funds to reimburse costs in Tennessee to fight the Chimney Top Fire in Sevier County. This authorization makes FEMA grant funding available to reimburse 75 percent of the eligible firefighting costs for managing, mitigating and controlling the fire that has claimed seven lives and destroyed over 700 structures. Other relief efforts have been formed to help assist those that have been displaced due to the fires. The Red Cross and private shelters have been set up across the region and the TBI has established a hotline for those that have family or friends missing in the areas where wildfires are located in East Tennessee. That number is 1-800-TBI FIND. The Tennessee State Dept. of Commerce & Insurance has also established a Community Resource Center in Pigeon Forge in the former Boyd’s Bear building parking lot at 149 Cates Lane.
