FENTRESS COUNTY CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF $85.6 MILLION US 127 UPGRADE PROJECT
State and local leaders gathered to mark the official completion of the US 127 (SR 28) improvement project in Fentress County. Finished on schedule on August 31, 2026, the 3.2-mile, $85.6 million infrastructure initiative was constructed by Jones Brothers Contractors, LLC.
Key Upgrades and Features

Expanded Capacity: Upgraded a narrow two-lane rural road into a modern five-lane facility featuring improved drainage, paved shoulders, sidewalks, and curbs and gutters.

Intersection Enhancements: Upgraded the SR 28 and SR 62 intersection with new turn lanes, pavement markings, and traffic signals to boost safety and mobility.

Clear Creek Bridge: Shifted a portion of the corridor to a new alignment featuring a 1,425-foot, ten-span concrete bridge, alongside a new retaining wall and the rehabilitation of the existing bridge.
Impact and Future Growth
Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Will Reid highlighted that the project strengthens safety, traffic flow, and roadway conditions for the roughly 7,000 motorists who travel the route daily. The overhaul is designed to support long-term economic growth and stands as one of four coordinated projects along the corridor advanced via the Transportation Modernization Act to enhance mobility throughout the Upper Cumberland region.
“Upgrading US 127 supports the daily needs of our communities while preparing the region for future growth,” said Commissioner Reid.
