FIRE AT KINGSTON RESIDENCE AFTER HEAT WAS TURNED ON FROM THE RECENT COLD

Kingston Fire Department responded to an early morning house fire Tuesday morning off Gallaher Road.  When they arrived, the homeowner was outside the residence.  The homeowner stated he turned his heat on for the first time and allegedly smelled heat and noticed a fire. He then tried to put the fire out with a bucket of water but was unsuccessful. The Fire Department was able to get the fire under control within the hour.

Chief Gordon stated that homeowners need to be aware when they first start their heating elements for the cold season and have them checked out and cleaned before they turn them on or at least keep an eye on them. Also, check your smoke detectors to make sure they are operating efficiently.
