FIRE CREWS BATTLE ANOTHER BLAZE A CROSSVILLE HARDWOOD

The City of Crossville Fire Department responded to a report of smoke at Crossville Hardwoods on Interstate Drive around 6:15 am Wednesday morning.

Firefighters discovered an  80-foot silo filled with sawdust had caught fire. Cumberland County Fire Department and mutual aid from Putnam County and White County fire departments were called to help extinguish the flames, but the silo appeared to get hotter as the morning went on.  Around 10:30 am, the pressure in the silo created an explosion that blew the doors out of the top.

Crossville Fire Chief Chris South said that around 50 firefighters were still on the scene as of Wednesday night and over 100,000 gallons of water had been used in the effort to extinguish the fire.

A quick search of the 3BMediaNews.com website indicates this is at least the 7th fire a Crossville Hardwoods in the past 5 years.

No injuries were reported as of Wednesday night.
