FIREFIGHTERS CONTINUE TO BATTLE 1,200 ACRE BLAZE IN FENTRESS COUNTY

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture said that 10 percent of the 1,200 acre fire has been contained in Fentress County as of noon today (March 10, 2021). It is in a rugged area a few miles southwest of Jamestown off of Gouldstown Road. No structures are threatened at this time. Crews worked overnight to establish control lines with dozers on the east and west flanks of the fire. Contingency control lines were developed today in an effort to contain slop-overs. The air quality is expected to remain low into the evening as an expected inversion layer settles in keeping the smoke low to the ground. Officials encourage residents in the area sensitive to smoke to stay indoors and run air conditioning.
