FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO DYLLIS ELEMENTARY FIRE

A structure fire was reported at the old Dyllis Elementary School building early this morning around 4 am. According to Blair Volunteer Fire Dept Chief Casey Laymance, the fire was in the gymnasium portion.

It was substantially damaged and 2 of the original classrooms in the basement were damaged as well. Still, most of the old school building was saved as firefighters battled the fire in extremely cold temperatures, and remained on the scene as of around 9:00 this morning.

Agencies that responded included Blair Volunteer Fire Dept., with assistance from Midtown Volunteer fire, and OES. Chief Laymance wishes to thank the mutual aid agencies for their assistance in helping them get the fire out.

No injuries were reported. According to Chief Laymance, the building did not have power or electricity hooked up so what caused the fire is still under investigation.

The old Dyllis School, which is in the Dyllis community near Blair, is north of Harriman.
