FLOCK CAMERAS TO BE INSTALLED IN ROCKWOOD
The Rockwood Police Department got the okay from the Rockwood City Council Monday evening to move forward with using what is known as automatic tag reader technology within the city limits. This technology is already in use in Oliver Springs , Oak Ridge, and Harriman where cameras are placed on utility poles mostly near traffic intersections where Traffic lights are at, which the readers (known as Flock cameras) can read hundreds of license plate information each minute as vehicles go through intersections.
It is noted that these cameras will not be speed radar cameras but are only to be in use when certain vehicles are being sought by law enforcement and to help them locate wanted individuals who may be inside certain vehicles.
The system approved by TDOT has been very successful in other cities with the apprehension of individuals who were fleeing from law enforcement.
The city council was told it may take at least another four weeks to get the cameras installed.
