FLU DEATHS ON THE RISE, OVER 2,000 DEATHS REPORTED NATIONWIDE

More than 4.5 million people have gotten sick from the flu since the season began at the end of September. The most recently released Centers for Disease Control (CDC) map looks different than just a few weeks ago. Now, more states are in the red, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi.

Health officials say that the number is higher than normal for this time of year. Most of the cases reported are caused by Influenza B virus, which is also unusual, according to the CDC.

Flu deaths across the country are still rising. New numbers from the CDC show more than 2,100 people have died from the virus – which is 300 higher than just two weeks ago. Two deaths from the flu were reported in Chattanooga. There have been 22 pediatric deaths so far this season nationwide.
