In Tennessee, Forbes named Dr. Thomas Frist Jr. and his family as the wealthiest in the state with a net worth of $8.8 billion. Frist’s fortune comes from the health-care industry. He was ranked at no. 22 on the all-time list with Microsoft founder Bill gates snagging the no. 1 spot for a net worth of $88.9 billion.
