FORD RECALLING 2.9 MILLION VEHICLES
Ford is recalling an estimated 2.9 million vehicles due to an issue with the shifter cable that can cause the cars not to go into the intended gear, leading to rollaway crashes. The Associated Press reports documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to indicate the cable can detach or degrade over time and that can lead to the impacted vehicles not shifting properly into the intended gear.
If that happens, a driver who for instance believes their car is in “park” may actually be in another gear, allowing it to roll away and cause a crash or other damage. Ford says it is aware of four injury reports as a result of the issue, and another six property damage claims. Ford has also received 1,630 warranty reports and 233 complaints about the problem.
