FORMER ANDERSON TEACHER FACES 24 FELONY CHARGES AFTER GRADING SCANDAL
Daniel “Clay” Turpin, a former teacher and assistant baseball coach at Clinton High School in Anderson County, faces 24 felony counts for tampering with or destroying government documents. He allegedly used his login credentials to access the school’s grading system, Edgenuity, between January and April 2024, changing failing or incomplete student grades, sometimes to perfect scores.
The scandal, which began in 2024, led to the resignation of principal Dan Jenkins and the firing of Turpin and another teacher, Rachel Jones, for unprofessional conduct and related charges. Jones admitted to changing grades under Jenkins’ direction in the 2022-23 school year.
Turpin, hired in 2022, is held on a $480,000 bond in Anderson County Jail.
