FORMER CUMBERLAND COUNTY CHEER COACH FACES TRIAL AFTER GRAND JURY INDICTMENT FOR THEFT

Former Cumberland County High School cheerleading head coach Donna Lea Mifflin is scheduled for a report-with-attorney hearing in the Cumberland County Circuit Court on August 25, 2026.

Mifflin faces a felony charge of theft of property between $2,500 and $10,000 following an investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office. State officials state that Mifflin allegedly misappropriated at least $5,155.03 in funds intended for cheer gear and spirit wear between April and October 2024.

Investigators revealed that Mifflin accepted parent payments and fundraising proceeds via cash, school checks, and her personal Venmo account, bypassing proper deposit channels. The scheme involved overcharging parents for apparel, pocketing fundraiser cash, and utilizing over $590 in team funds to buy gear for a family member on the squad.

The case highlights critical vulnerabilities in school-level financial oversight, prompting state officials to stress the necessity of strict documentation and transparent collection procedures for all extracurricular activities.
