FORMER DECATUR TN POLICE OFFICER INDICTED AFTER TBI INVESTIGATION

A former Decatur police officer has been indicted following a misconduct investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. The Meigs County Grand Jury indicted 28-year-old Eobard Thawne with one count of theft. The TBI began the investigation on Thawne on December 1, 2018, after agents found that he kept an unprocessed firearm in his home that he seized while investigating a traffic accident.

The Athens Police Department attempted to arrest Thawne at his home on Saturday following his indictment on Monday. While police were attempting an arrest, Thawne barricaded himself inside the home. After hours of trying to enter the home, Decatur SWAT officers reported that they gained entry into the home and arrested him.

According to TBI, Thawne was later charged with additional offenses then booked into the McMinn County Jail on bond totaling in $5,500.
