A joint investigation by the T.B.I. and the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury has led to the indictment of a former Fentress County employee on theft charges. Late last year, agents started to look into allegations of theft involving 36-year-old Kellye Crabtree. During the course of the investigation, officers developed information that between December 2014 and December 2018, Crabtree used her position as an accounts payable clerk for the Fentress County Finance Department to steal more than $200,000. This week, a Fentress County grand jury returned an indictment charging Crabtree with theft over $60,000. Yesterday, she turned herself in and was booked into the Fentress County Jail on a $238,000 bond.
