FORMER FENTRESS SHERIFF PLEADS GUILTY TO TAMPERING WITH RECORDS
WVLT reports that Former Fentress County Sheriff Michael Reagon has entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to a Class A misdemeanor for tampering with governmental records. The charge was reduced from a felony after an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) revealed that in December 2024, Reagon directed former Detective Jerry Mifflin to fraudulently complete mandatory in-service training courses on his behalf.
This deception kept Reagon in compliance with the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Commission and made him eligible for a salary supplement. Following their indictments in November 2025, Reagon resigned from his position in December 2025. By waiving his right to a trial, Reagon received a sentence of 11 months and 29 days of supervised probation, was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service, and must permanently surrender his P.O.S.T. certification, rendering him ineligible to work in law enforcement.
Meanwhile, Detective Mifflin, who previously turned himself in and was booked on a $10,000 bond, is scheduled for a plea deadline hearing on June 26.
