FORMER KNOXVILLE POLICE OFFICER INDICTED FOR ABUSE OF A CORPSE
A former Knoxville Police Department officer has been indicted following a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) probe into allegations that he inappropriately touched a deceased person.
Shigeki Nagamoto, 38, was charged with one count of abuse of a corpse by a Knox County Grand Jury. According to the TBI, the charge stems from a December 2024 incident where Nagamoto allegedly exposed and inappropriately touched part of a deceased womanโs body while at a reported death scene.

The Investigation: TBI agents launched the inquiry in June after uncovering evidence regarding Nagamotoโs conduct at the December scene.

Career Status: Nagamoto was placed on administrative reassignment before ultimately resigning from the police department in July.

Legal Proceedings: Following his indictment, Nagamoto turned himself in and was booked into the Knox County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
