FORMER SGT. GARY HAMILITON OF BLOUNT COUNTY PASSES

The Blount County Sheriff’s Office posted that Sgt. Hamilton passed away earlier this morning, January 3 following a battle with cancer. Sgt. Hamilton served the citizens of Blount County for 31 years, beginning in 1990. He was a patrol deputy for a short time before transitioning to the Crime Scene Unit, and in 2004 he received a promotion to Sergeant in Crime Scene. He retired from his full-time position in 2011, and then returned part-time to the Sex Offender Registry Office. His knowledge and experience as a crime scene investigator inspired many young deputies. The Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Blount County benefited greatly from Sgt. Hamilton’s service.

Sheriff James Lee Berrong extends his condolences to Sgt. Hamilton’s family and friends.
